What is an OKR, PPP, KPI Tracker!?
The best way to plan and track your startup is with OKRs, PPPs and KPIs. Yes, those are a lot of acronyms! Don’t worry- I wrote a huge supporting blog you can learn from.
But let’s cover the three terms quickly:
- OKR: The system made famous first by Intel and made known by Google gets all staff to outline their major objectives and the quantifiable actions (i.e. key results) it’ll take to achieve them. This is a technique designed for accountability which is enforced with scores (Which we won’t do).
- KPI: Key Performance Indicators. They tell you how you’re doing with numbers. Or more specifically, they tell you if your startup is going to hit its targets and not go bust.
- PPP: Progress, Plans and Problems. It’s a really simple system used by startups large and small (From Skype to Seedcamp) to facilitate fantastic communication regarding what people are working on. Your daily startup standup is the same structure as your weekly PPP. What you did, what you’re going to do and where you have issues the team needs to help with.
There are fancy tools to manage these and more complicated systems, but this is designed to get you 80% of the benefit AND to be simple enough that staff will actually use this!
What I did was study OKRs, and what other useful tools startups use, simplify them, and put them into a Google Sheet that’s easy to use. And to make it more cool, I designed a way to automatically send updates from the sheet to managers each week!

Who the heck built these models and do you have a clue?
Hi. You’re on my site, I built the models.
I’ve worked at Lazard in FIG M&A (Top tier firm and team), and VC, I’ve built lots of startups, I mentor at lots of accelerators (And mentor some of the people who run them), TEDx talked, bla bla.
I’ve got more free Excel tools on my site than any other startup site and I give the stuff away that others charge for. Get some of my free stuff and tell yourself before you buy if you aren’t sure.

I had never heard of OKP before getting Alex’s spreadsheet. It will be very useful. Everyone has tasks which can be tracked. That way, you can see who’s stuck in tar and who’s cruisin’. And the SaaS spreadsheet – it’s just magnificent. Worth its weight in Tylenol.
