This is the Sendbird pitch deck to raise a $100m series-c round in 2021.
About
Sendbird developed a messaging-as-a-service API that provides chat, voice, and video messaging for mobile apps and websites. The company was founded in 2013 by Brandon Y Jeon, Forest Lee, Harry Kim, and John S. Kim and is headquartered in San Mateo, California, United States.
Chat messenger startup Sendbird has raised $100 million in Series C funding at a unicorn valuation.
Founded in 2016, Sendbird, headquartered in San Mateo, California, provides in-app chat messenger integrations via an API and claims to have tripled its customer base to around 150 million users since its Series B.
COVID-19 has seen digital message providers boom, with big services such as Hinge, Reddit, and Delivery Hero among the users of Sendbird’s technology.
The Series C funding round was led by Steadfast Financial. Emergence Capital and Softbank Vision Fund 2 also participated in the round, as well as previous investors ICONIQ Capital, Tiger Global Management, and Meritech Capital.
Sendbird CEO and cofounder John Kim told Insider that while the firm wasn’t the first to the messaging API space (others include Twilio and MessageBird), he said the firm had grown rapidly.
The funding process began remotely in mid-February and was completed within a two-week period, Kim said. The fresh funding will go towards improving Sendbird’s product, hiring new staff, and R&D.
“Modern brands in all verticals are increasingly adopting in-app chat to power digital, real-time, and authentic conversations with their customers to drive engagement and retention,” said Sendbird board member Karan Mehandru. “We believe Sendbird’s market leadership and product scalability puts them in pole position to capture these tailwinds and become the first choice for every brand in the world looking to communicate authentically with their audience.”
Sendbird now has a unicorn valuation of $1.05 billion, but Kim says the milestone isn’t the firm’s only goal.
