This is the Apricity pitch deck to raise a $7m seed round in 2019.
About
UK-based virtual fertility clinic Apricity has seen revenue nearly double in the first half of 2020 compared to last year, despite scaling back its operations because of the pandemic.
The startup, which runs fertility clinics with partners and has digital services such as a patient care app and 7/7 online support, delayed all in-vitro fertilization (IVF) rounds that were due to start during two months of lockdown. But revenue still grew from £90,000 ($118,000) in April to £184,000 ($241,000) in June — its best month ever.
Revenue for the first half of 2020 was up 84% compared to the same period in 2019.
The company decided to delay a Series B that was scheduled for the end of 2020 until Q2 2021 — its increased revenue along with COVID-related startup support from the French government have bolstered its finances.
It raised a $7 million Series A round from AXA’s startup studio Kamet Ventures in June 2019. Since then, three babies have been born and 15 more women are pregnant because of Apricity.
“At the moment we have actually success rates which are higher than the ones in the market,” said CEO Caroline Noublanche, adding that it was too early to publish concrete numbers.
Noublanche attributed part of the company’s success to AI tech used in a fertility tracker, which tailors treatment for patients based on evidence from around the world. “It’s still in research and development at this stage, but it actually brings a lot of value,” Noublanche said. “It’s really just the tip of the iceberg.”
It has extended a trial partnership it ran in the second half of 2019 with AXA PPP healthcare to offer fertility services to corporate clients. From 2021, it also hopes to expand its operations into other European markets. Plans to launch into countries like Spain, Germany, and France this year have been delayed because of the pandemic, and Noublanche said COVID-19 might impact which countries it launches into.
Funding rounds
They did a seed of €2.3m and then they raised a €6m series-A from Kamet.
Pitch deck review summary
The deck has promise but totally fails to deliver.
Structured summary review
Words
They typically aren’t verbose. When they use words there are normally too many of them, and often there aren’t enough words.
Slide length
There are around 18 slides and at least half of them are totally pointless.
Headers
The headers are fairly decent but don’t really get to the point always.
Appearance
This was clearly designed by a designer. I really believe that designers cause more harm than benefit.
Narrative
There are so many pointless slides in the deck that it’s hard to track if there is a narrative. I broadly think that the slides they have are in the right order.
Structure
The slide is structured up well, there’s just faaaaarrrrr too much going on.
Slides
Look at the deck and tell me if you can quickly tell me:
- How much they charge and how they make money?
- How large their market is?
- How they acquire customers?
- What stage the company is?
Slide by slide review
Don’t put the date on a deck. Typically when people write disrupt they aren’t disrupting anything. It’s cliche to write the D word.

You do not need a ToC in a deck!

And please, no interstitial slides. The deck shouldn’t be long enough to need them, and should also be structured so it flows.

Headers should always be in the same place and on one line. For the life of me, I can’t think of a possible reason for them to line break after a few words.
The slide looks good, there is just too much on it. The message sort of gets lost.

They have piled information onto the slide again. I just wouldn’t make a slide like this. It’s a lot of effort to read it all and i think most people already understand the basic problem.

I can’t really see the steps that are missing. I know there is a point on this slide, but I don’t get how “the rest of the process can be organized around them?” Just, what? I would imagine that clinics aren’t run by morons, so they do things for a particular reason. They haven’t explained why clinics are run wrong.

Pointless slide.

Pointless slide.

Pointless slide.

My eyes roll whenever I see AI plopped onto a slide. Everyone knows there is no AI involved.
And oooohhh there is a mobile app…
I personally know that fertility treatment could do with some help, but they haven’t really said anything interesting yet.

Pointless slide.

Why do we need to see a picture of a woman on the phone?
I mean, um, having people answer the phone is not exactly disruptive. I’m not sure that there is much point to this slide.

Gosh, they love to ensure that there is no white space left on a slide, don’t they!
Look at the size of that wall of text on the bottom left. No one wants to read your essay.
I don’t really know what’s going on with the slide but I don’t really want to read everything to figure it out.

Pretty good slide. I would have a little header for each of the 4 steps so I know what the point is without reading in more detail. The images that they have created are decent enough.

Transparency in pricing how? I don’t like how the deck was written. It’s not like the founders are morons, it’s just too much effort.

I wonder if they are confused about what the point of the deck is? Some of the content read like it’s for their website.
When you do partnership slides you just want to show how many members are coming their way, what economic terms are etc. I don’t give a toss about simplification and the support and guidance. I want to know about money!

Again with the D word.
Since I can’t see that they have done anything yet, they should focus on accomplishing something in the UK before they start banging on about going worldwide.
I feel like someone on the team worked in marketing for a corporate. The material looks good, but it’s sort of pointless.
Ha, read “we want to improve success with the AI project”. Told you the AI claim was BS.
