This is the Brandtotal pitch deck to raise a $12m series-b round in 2020.

About

BrandTotal was conceived in order to solve a problem facing marketing teams today. This problem is Dark Marketing. Dark marketing is replacing traditional marketing techniques, making it nearly impossible to keep tabs on your competition. By applying cyber security, machine learning, and AI methodologies, BrandTotal is able to reverse-engineer your competitors’ marketing strategies, giving you an edge over your competitive landscape. BrandTotal’s platform allows you to be agile. Get actionable insights and adjust your strategies in real-time.

BrandTotal is a marketing analytics company that pitches advertisers on the premise that most digital and social media ads are now “dark,” or visible only to the people they’re targeting.

Canada’s INcapital Ventures led the round with Maor Investments, Glilot Capital Partners, Flint Capital, KDC Media Fund, and FJ Labs.

Pitch deck review summary

Structured summary review

Words

Broadly there aren’t enough words to explain things. Do the thinking for investors.

Slide length

There are no page numbers. It’s useful to tell you how many slides there are…

Deck is too short. There’s a lot that I actually care about that is not in the deck.

Headers

Headers are crap. They’re just grunts of what the slide is about. You have the joy to read it all to understand what the point is, if you can.

Appearance

It’s solid, they hired a designer. You can tell because a lot of decisions have been made which make slides look pretty but negate the point of the deck being easy to read. So, joy!

Narrative

There isn’t one.

Structure

Why the flark is agile marketing repeated in the master slide where the page number should be. And there is no page number… no those words are not more useful than a page number.

Slides

Slide by slide review

You don’t need to write confidential.

Start explaining what it is that you do.

Pay attention. There is a KDC logo on top of their logo in the bottom left.

I don’t really see how this slide adds value. What’s the point of the NYC office.

Flark. A wall of text is a smorgasbord of words no one wants to read. This slide is used in the dictionary to illustrate it.

You are not allowed to write a paragraph in a pitch deck.

Bullet points are allowed if you need to make more than one point.

I think I have only ever read a mission that added any value. Don’t write a mission statement.

Other than the cover and end slide, every slide should be structured the same. Ok, I personally have my ‘one liner slide’ designed a little like this, but just don’t switch things up.

There’s too much going on with the slide.

What’s the point of the slide? They have written a header to allude to the point and have kindly allowed you the requirement to read every aspect of it to understand what the flark the point is? I am not interested in figuring out the point. I want you to tell me the point and use data to prove it.

The content on the slide is not rubbish, it’s just not considerate of the audience.

Ok… but you better get to what the point is soon. As a starting point, I don’t know what dark marketing is.

Ok, interesting, but get to the point.

If this is the point, I am sorely disappointed…

LOL. I know a bit about AI. It’s composed of 7 disciplines which include ML and NLP. Writing you use AI is like writing I use fruit and apples and oranges. Apples are fruit dipshite.

I know “AI” is bullshit if I don’t see a specific word like TensorFlow (which isn’t necessarily saying that much).

They collect data with their AI, but what’s the point? If the point is about the data channels, then focus on that.

The slide is overdesigned. Just be boring and easy to read. There is a three-step point. Have the headers at the top. Have the content below. Also, increase the font size to be more legible.

And I need to add, kill the dark background. Just use white or a light grey.

There is zero reason to have all the body text between brackets.

I do not understand what the point of the slide is.

What the flarking flark is going on here. Have they copied and pasted something from a research report. It is horrendous. How can it possibly make sense to have all that text copied?

Market sizing can at best hope to be less wrong because it will never be correct. What investors actually want to see is you have put in some work and show your thoughts on how you have derived your forecasts for market size. It shows you are analytical and know your market. Copy/paste tells me you did some quick Google research and could not give a flark about doing work.

Another copy and paste. They’ve dumped stuff in and think I’m going to read it and be thankful for it.

I assure you I can research better than you. This accomplishes nothing as it stands. I want to see how the founders think.

This is a crappy canvas? I do not see the point.
