Chargebee Pitch Deck to Raise $55m Series-F Round

This is the Chargebee pitch deck to raise a $55m series-f round in 2020.

About

Chargebee offers subscription and recurring billing systems for subscription-based SaaS and eCommerce businesses. It is built with a focus on delivering the best experience to provide a seamless and flexible recurring billing experience to customers and manage customer subscriptions. With the subscription businesses expanding worldwide, each recurring revenue business needs more options and flexibility to manage varied billing use cases.

Commercially available since mid-2012, Chargebee is a trusted billing partner for SaaS, Subscription eCommerce, and Membership Services of various sizes, globally. Chargebee’s highly skilled team delivers professional support that helps small businesses quickly implement best practices and compliance requirements.

Some of the features that help differentiate Chargebee are the ability to use custom fields, and custom domain support with mobile-compatible check-out pages, apart from a highly stable REST API for extended flexibility.

The company was founded in 2011 and is based in San Francisco, California.

Founded in 2011, Chargebee is used by over 2,500 companies globally – including businesses like Freshworks and Pret A Manger – helping them to manage and grow their revenue by setting up and automating subscription billing.

According to market research firm Forrester, the software-as-a-service (Saas) industry is growing steadily around the world, and set to be worth around $411 billion by 2022.

“We believe that a steady SaaS-i-fication of the market is already underway, with traditional businesses replicating the best practices of SaaS pricing and business models even outside the realm of software,” noted Krish Subramanian, co-founder and CEO of Chargebee.

“Even beyond SaaS and software, we’re seeing a global movement where businesses from cars to coffee pods are launching and scaling with a subscription-first model,” said AJ Malhotra, vice president at Insight Partners.

“The need for an underlying revenue platform that allows businesses this degree of adaptability is paramount today. We’re excited to be partnering with Chargebee in this space.

Pitch Deck Review Summary

Structured Summary Review

Words

There are too few words to explain things in detail.

Slide length

Firstly, I highly doubt that this is their full deck and they just shared a marketing version. In fact there is absolutely zero chance this is the deck that they used.

Headers

They are ok, but a little short. Slides need to be explained in more detail.

Appearance

It’s very pretty, but too much so. It masks the total lack of insightful content.

Narrative

They have built-in a narrative and the slides flow well, but it’s very high level.

Structure

Everything is aligned well, but that’s easy when there is not much content on the slides.

Slides

Anything commercial is missing. There is no market size, team, revenue, traction, ask etc.

Slide by Slide Review

I don’t like the cover. I prefer a simple tagline so I get an impression of what the startup is about.

The logo is far too small.

The headers in the deck aren’t terrible, but I strongly prefer full ones that explain the point of the slide so you don’t have to read to understand.

Are they saying that Netflix and Uber are going to be replaced? I don’t think they are, but I’m actually not sure.

This slide looks really pretty, but what is the point? They’re just listing a few business model-related terms. So what?

Again this is such a random way to explain something. If the slide didn’t look pretty you would wonder wtf?

This is not a well-written slide. It’s something you would use in your sales deck to walk through prospects through.

What’s the point? That the NYT doing well? Why wouldn’t they compare them to someone doing poorly then?

The content is far too high level. I can’t believe they raised this deck.

I want to know details such as what % of revenue comes from clients. What the breakdown is between client sectors etc.

Case studies are always hard to do. This isn’t bad.

I want a photo and title of the person who gave the quote.

The who/why etc should be in bold to break up the text. The text should be broken up to use more negative space, but clearly, it was done by a designer who wanted the slides to look nice.

This case study shows they helped a company grow (claiming all the credit!) whilst the last one showed they helped a client scale into new markets which is smart.

It’s a fine slide, but it’s very high level.
