This is the GraphCMS pitch deck to raise a $10m series-a round in 2021.
About
GraphCMS is the enterprise-class content management platform that enables ambitious digital products at scale. With the industry’s most versatile GraphQL content APIs and a novel approach in external data sourcing, the content platform enables ambitious use cases. Enterprise customers see GraphCMS as a database highly optimized for structured content while giving content creators the tools to build their ultimate content pipeline. GraphCMS is developed by GraphCMS GmbH, headquartered in Berlin, Germany, and is currently enabling nearly 50,000 teams across the world to rapidly build and deliver tomorrow’s omnichannel digital experiences at scale.
GraphCMS, a Berlin-based content delivery platform, has raised a $10 million Series A round led by OpenOcean, a VC firm that focuses on digital infrastructure startups.
The company’s product is a “headless” content management system (CMS) that lets businesses create, edit and update content for any of their channels in one place, rather than having to individually update their websites, mobile apps, commerce platforms, and so on.
Its USP is that it’s the first company to build a system like this using GraphQL, a coding language that lets developers request data from third-party sources or APIs. This means GraphCMS can pull information from any app or service a business is using, such as Shopify or Amazon Web Services.
Using Netflix as an example, GraphCMS’s CEO and cofounder Michael Lukaszczyk explains that his platform can collect information relating to any show or movie — from its rating on Rotten Tomatoes or credits on IMDB to getting the actual films themselves from production providers. This can then be delivered across the streaming platform’s web and mobile apps.
The first time Lukaszczyk heard of the term headless CMS was in March 2016, when he spotted a blog post explaining the concept. He had recently begun developing GraphQL, released by its creator Facebook in 2015.
“I loved the idea of having a centralised content repository that can serve content into all the platforms you like,” he says. “It was at the time when mobile was getting really big, and smart TVs were getting big. Content distribution needed to be taken care of in an omnichannel way, not only for web browsers.”
He says GraphCMS has tripled its revenues in the last year. The company’s customers include multinational telecoms firm Telenor, as well as two European government bodies.
