Long before the pandemic closed the doors of Jacob Braunstein’s local synagogue, his rabbi asked him to take over the production of the Sabbath livestream. Braunstein would lug in multiple cameras and cut to different angles.
The livestream took off, and soon other synagogues were calling to have him do their productions too.
That experience planted the seed of his startup, LiveControl, which has just raised $30 million in new funding led by Coatue, along with existing investors First Round Capital, David Tisch’s Box Group, Susa Ventures, and TriplePoint. Coatue has become an active startup investor, especially in video production with investments in Hopin and Mux.
Based in Los Angeles, LiveControl sells a subscription-video production service that allows venues like synagogues, theatres, and municipal buildings to set up multiple cameras before an event and then pass the controls to a remote operator.
Braunstein’s business exploded through the pandemic, as venues turned to livestreaming to allow people stuck at home to view their events, and LiveControl CEO Patrick Coyne says growth has only accelerated since venues have started to reopen.
