This is the Oxwash pitch deck to raise a $2m seed round in 2020.
About
Oxwash, the laundry startup working to disrupt the way we wash our clothes, has raised $2 million in a funding round backed by Twitter cofounder Biz Stone.
Launched in 2018, Oxwash currently has more than 4,000 customers, and provides its high-tech washing services to big names like the Marriott Hotel chain, the London Marathon, and the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
The firm aims to make laundry more environmentally friendly, citing research showing every load of laundry currently processed uses 80 litres of water, and releases 7lbs of CO2 – and a million microfibre particles into the environment.
Kyle Grant, the firm’s CEO and cofounder, is an ex-NASA engineer, who spent two years as a systems engineer researching how microorganisms might be used to improve space travel.
He is building a Deliveroo-style system to ferry customers’ laundry to and from their planned regional “washing hubs”, where their clothes will be washed in a more environmentally way, utilizing oxidization rather than heat to remove microfibre particles, and a new filtration system that reduces water consumption.
Speaking to TechCrunch about the fundraising round, he said: “Washing still has crazy carbon emissions, pollution and collection/delivery services cause large amounts of congestion.”
He added: “We saw a way to re-engineer the laundry process from the ground up and to be the first truly sustainable, space-age laundry company in the world.”
